Lake Conroe's Hidden Gem

Who knew our lake was the home of a hidden gem, one that is known all over the country? I sure didnt. It was only after reading a email I requested from the owners of what I thought was just another BBQ place that I found out how wrong I was. Little did I know, one of the best sauce and rub makers in the country chose to bring their business to our lake, Lake Conroe. After reading their story I will be sure to go check them out and so should you. Here is their story:

I am writing today to share a dream and a story with you.  Bob and I met through a mutual friend from Little League in 2004, married a year and a half later and created a blended family with our four teenagers.  What a roller coaster ride it has been. We have seen many happy times and unfortunately many sad times over the last few years.  We have lost two beautiful friends Sara 17 and Arielle 20, but they are together in Heaven and are now our Guardian Angels.

We moved to Montgomery, Texas from Aliso Viejo, California five years ago.  Yes, a culture shock to some, but we love the small town environment and friends we have found in our little town of Montgomery.  Bob being from Georgia and me growing up in Dallas, we both feel home in Montgomery.  With the loss of our dear friends we have all felt a closer connection with God and have looked to him to help answer  our question of what our future holds and how on earth are we going to put 4 teenagers through college?  Hence the dream.  

It has been our tradition to give away Bob’s amazing BBQ sauces and rubs as Christmas gifts to family, friends and coworkers.  By February we always get the repeated call, “we’re out of BBQ sauce, how do we get more?”  In 2009 we decided to launch Uncle Bob’s Sauces, LLC.  With Bob’s passion to create amazing sauces and rubs and our drive to put our four children through college, what better time then now to get started. Uncle Bob’s BBQ Sauce and Rubs are now in over 100 stores around the country, we won the 2012 Dallas Gourmet Gold Award for best BBQ Sauce and our Georgia Juice and All Purpose Rub were recently featured in Paula Deen Magazine July/August 2012 edition as her “Hidden Gem”.   Our sauces can also be found in stores around Montgomery, Brookshire Brothers, Montgomery in the meat dept, Brookshire Brothers Huntsville, Majskzaks Meat Market on hwy 105, Walker Feed in Willis, Stow-A-Way Marina and Uncle Bob’s BBQ on the Lake.

In April 2011 we opened Uncle Bob’s BBQ on the Lake, located at 13988 Calvary Rd., Willis, TX on the north end of Lake Conroe at Stow-A-Way Marina.  Our restaurant is in a beautiful location on the water, featuring BBQ Sandwiches, BBQ Baked Potatos, amazing burgers and much more, plenty of courtesy boat slips. We are open Fri 11-7, Sat 11-7 & Sun 11-7 936-890-7022.  We manufacture our BBQ  Sauces and Rubs during the week while the restaurant is closed.  
HOLIDAY HOURS THIS WEEKEND FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND, FRI 11-7pm, SAT 11-8PM, SUN 11-9PM, MON 11-3PM.  THE LONGNECK BAND WILL BE PLAYING IN THE PAVILLION FROM 4-8 ON SUNDAY, FREE CONCERT AND GREAT BBQ! HOPE TO SEE YOU!  We will also have a booth at the Montgomery Wine Fest coming up Sat, September 15, 2012 in downtown Montgomery.
