Ignition Bass Tournament Trail

We had the pleasure of asking Jim Brockman the Tournament Director - (Conroe/Livingston) of the IGNITION BASS Tournament Trail some Questions(in red). Thank you Jim for your response! (in black)

What is Ignition Bass?
Ignition Bass is a One (1) Lake Bass Tournament Trail started in 2003 by Ian Coleman. It started out as a Trail on Cedar Creek with 5 fall events. In 2006 I became involved with forming a South Region with tournaments on Lake Conroe. Ignition Bass now has 5 Divisions on 4 different lakes. Lake Tawakoni and Cedar Creek in the North Region, and Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston in the South. In 2006 we had 5 Team events and 5 Individual events on Lake Conroe. We now offer 6 in the Team Division and 8 in the Individual and over 40 tournaments a year statewide. Ignition bass is the ONLY Individual Circuit in the Houston area.
How does one join your club?
Ignition Bass is not a "Club", we prefer to call it a "Circuit".. It does however have membership fees to belong and participate. Our Membership fees are currently $20 per year (Jan. 1st - Dec 31st) and are good for any Ignition Bass Division, North or South.
What kind of success have your members have and had at Lake Conroe? Some of our members have been VERY successful. We have a couple that will bank over $6000 this year just from Ignition Bass events. After our Championship and Fall Open events, we will have paid out almost $100,000 in cash paybacks just on Lake Conroe!
When is the next event at Lake Conroe?
The next Ignition Bass events on Lake Conroe will be the Individual Championship to be held on September 28th out of Stow-A-Way Marina. The Team championship will be held on October 4-5, (2 day) also out of Stow-A-Way. We will also be holding 3 "Open" (You needn't be a member to fish) Tournaments in the Fall.....Oct 18th, Nov. 8th, and Dec. 13th.
What is in store for your club in the future at Lake Conroe?
We have grown from a 32 team average in 2006 to 73 teams in 2008 and fully expect 2009 to be as good if not better. Gas prices will tend to keep some folks a little closer to home to fish and the whole premise of Ignition Bass is to appeal to those fishermen within a 50 radius of a particular lake.
What is the average turnout at Lake Conroe?
We are averaging 73 Teams in the Team Division and 42 entries in the Individual Division.
What is the average stringer weights this year compared to past years at Lake Conroe?
In 2007, we averaged 48 boats in the Team Division and had an average of 71 fish weighing 234.55lbs. (3.33lbs. each) brought to the scales. In 2008 we averaged 73 boats and had an average of 206 fish weighing 743.59lbs. (3.60lbs. each) brought in!
Who are some of the local anglers that stand out this year at Lake Conroe?
I'll start by mentioning our 2008 Anglers Of The Year (AOY) in the Team Division....Keith Kramer from Willis, and Chuck Gstohl from Conroe. Our Individual AOY was Clint Blair from Mongomery. We also had Mike Parsons (Willis), David Perciful (Conroe), Danny Singleton, Andy Gaia (Tomball), Gabe Alanis (Conroe), Chris Wilkerson (The Woodlands), Russell Cecil (Willis), and many, many others.
What kind of success can someone expect from bass fishing lake Conroe?
To be sucessful on Lake Conroe, you have to be willing to devote a lot of time on the water (TOW)! If you do, it can be very rewarding. Not only through Ignition Bass, but through the Monday and Thursday week night events held all summer.
What are some tips that could help someone come to Lake Conroe have successful bass fishing trip?
Be prepared to do battle with the jet skiers, and all the boat traffic during normal tournament hours! LOL!!! Do your homework before you get here. Fish hard!
How do you picture the sucess of Lake Conroe bass fishing in the future?
The future of Lake Conroe as a fishery, is largely dependent upon current efforts to control the growth of invasive plant life and the establishment of native plants to support the ecosystem. If all parties involved work together for the common good, Lake Conroe will continue to be one of the best fisheries in Texas. Ignition Bass supports any efforts to keep it that way.
