Here is the story about the pending record blue cat told by the captain of the boat from which the fish was caught.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dave and his daughter Joules met me at the boat at 5:00PM. Today is her birthday and she wanted to go fishing with her daddy and see the sun set in the evening and rise in the morning, so he was going to try and give her a birthday wish. We motored around on the lake till the sun set and it was sad the clouds took the scenery. Absolutely no wind. I can see now this is going to be a challenging night for fishing. The last two times I went fishing with David there was not wind and the drift fishing suffered for it. Joules is 8 years old now and just a beautiful young lady. First fish of the night belongs to Birthday Lady.My guests fell asleep for about an hour while I tended ship. After they woke up I told David I was going to lay flat on the floor for 5 min to give my back and shoulder a break. It never fails as soon as I get flat of my back my reel starts screaming in the front of the boat. I told David to get it please! Up I get and he say's it feels like a good one here is your rod. No way you started this fish and it is yours now finish it. I really thought it was just a big cat. Well this cat decided to wrap all the other lines in the water and tie them in knots. As David gets one close to the tip I untie the mess. This took a little time and the Cat is resting . Well once I get it free he decided to let the holder of the pole it was time for a fight. David did a fine job of getting the fish to boat side and I netted him. We fished the rest of the night without any luck at all. Total fish caught for the night was 3 small blues and this monster. A 64 lb Blue Cat. The current lake record for R&R is 55lbs set in 1983 Talk about raising the bar.
There is a real problem trying to get a fish certified on a scale on the lake over 50lbs. I called Parks & Wildlife and was told basically to kill the fish by taking it to a feed store and get it weighed. We worked hard to keep this big girl alive and back to the dock so we could tie her off. Now looks like David is going to put it in the truck to get it certified. Fish was caught on a piece of perch in 38ft of water North of the Dam.....
I just heard from David and the fish has been CERTIFIED at 64lbs even.
What a fine day.
